A.J. Davis
Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano, VoiceA.J. started playing guitar at 8 years old. He began guitar lessons in elementary school and continued until the end of middle school. In high school, he began studying composition and improvisation with Stan Smith of Capital University, and classical guitar at the Columbus Music Academy. He also began writing songs and performing them in local venues around Columbus. While in high school, A.J. started to give private guitar lessons. He then went on to study jazz composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. At Berklee where he also began studies on the piano. A.J. is currently writing songs and performing them around the Columbus area. He has enjoyed a life full of music and is excited to share his knowledge so that others can do the same.

Alyssa Capps
Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Voice, Acoustic GuitarAlyssa started playing piano with her grandmother at age 5 and loved making music so much that she joined the school orchestra, band and choir. As she spent more time playing, her primary focus became cello and she began to study privately with cellists from the Lima Symphony and Bowling Green State University. Alyssa also participated in the Lima Area Youth Orchestra, District III Honors Orchestra and at the BGSU Summer Strings Program during high school. Alyssa went on to earn a degree in music education from Capital University and during her time there participated in the Capital/Bexley Orchestra, string quartets, piano quintets, fiddle pedagogy class and took private lessons with cello and piano. Currently Alyssa plays with several area string quartets and enjoys playing in the indie band Super Desserts. Teaching private lessons for 4 years, Alyssa is excited to help people discover their own talents and to further their musical progression.

Anthony Pollina
Bass Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Drums, PianoAnthony is a working bassist and vocalist in the Columbus local music scene with over 10 years of performing experience. He studied bass throughout high school and spent two years studying in the Jazz Performance Department at The Ohio State University. With a Bachelors Degree under his belt from the Fisher College of Business at OSU, Anthony has been able to make performing bass and singing his primary focus by playing gigs 4-5 nights a week among 6 various ensembles. He is well versed in playing pop/rock, funk, blues, bluegrass, jazz and R & B. Areas of teaching would include technique, chords, scales and modes, theory, ear training, reading and writing, improvisation, learning song structures and charts, and understanding groove and the pocket. Anthony currently plays with; The Eddie Pollina Band, Mrs. Robinson and the Graduates, Triple Bill, Soul Annex, The Dfaults, and The Ex-Presidents.

Ben Ford
Drums, Acoustic Guitar, Electric GuitarBen's mom always knew he would be a drummer when he kicked along to the beat of a Bruce Springsteen concert when she was still pregnant with him. Ever since, he hasn't been able to get music and rhythm out of his head. From his beginnings on his Mickey Mouse drumset at the age of four, Ben has become well versed in many styles ranging from marching, Latin, and rock. After playing in bands throughout high school on the east side of Cleveland, Ben came to Ohio State in 2003 and almost immediately found like minded musicians. They formed an indie rock band called The Kessel Run that played all over Ohio and Columbus for nearly 6 years. Ben has toured throughout the area, including Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Youngstown, Kettering, Athens and many others. While raised as a kid in a house filled with music, he became acquainted with many different styles that have informed his playing ever since. Ben is thrilled to be able to pass on what he has learned through his many years of experience and is looking forward to sharing his passion for music with others.

Colin Martin
Saxophone, Piano, Acoustic Guitar, VoiceColin was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1987. He started playing saxophone when he was 10 years old and shortly after began studying piano. Throughout high school, Colin received many accolades for his performance and musical talents. He sat first chair in his high school Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and was a member of the West Virginia All-State Concert Band. For a while, Colin wanted to pursue a career in the sciences, but halfway through studying both physics and music at the Ohio State University, he realized that the musical art was his calling and has since established himself as a unique voice in and around the Columbus music scene. Currently, Colin can be seen performing around the city with a variety of groups and in varying styles including his own band, "The Good Instrument Friends," which draws upon a mélange of styles including jazz, world music, folk, hip-hop, blues, gospel, rock and pop. Musically, Colin has been known to be uniquely energetic, intense, sensitive, and powerful. In a 2010 article for Columbus Monthly Magazine, Colin was described as, "…a seeker, and there's always the story Martin wants to tell that night on his horn. By the time he's finished, you feel like you've been on a long journey to a distant land - to a place that's possibly unattainable but definitely worth striving for." With his unique and open personality, Colin strives to share his optimistic stance that music alone can strengthen the quality and meaning of life for anyone.

Courtney Feick
Piano, Voice, Drums, Acoustic Guitar, Electric GuitarCourtney has been immersed in music all of her life. From the time she could talk, her mother was teaching her to sing melodies and harmonies. At age seven, she and her other three siblings began private piano lessons. She continued her study through High School and into college. This, she says, is one of the things for which she is most grateful. This skill has proven to be extremely valuable throughout her life. At age 12, she began to teach herself guitar and learned to play and sing while in her Church's praise band. In 5th grade, she began private percussion lessons, taught by her grandmother, and continued taking them through high school. Courtney is now a Vocal Music Education major at Capital University. While in the Conservatory, she has been a four year member of Chapel Choir, as well as the soprano section leader for two years. She has had a number of solos in the choir and is also an active participant in the Conservatory's Opera and Musical productions. Her roles in these productions include "The Bakers Wife" in Into the Woods, "Leila" in Iolanthe, and "Aunt March" in Little Women. In addition to being on the stage, she has also had experience behind the curtain. In 2007, Courtney was assistant stage manager for the Conservatory's production of Edwin Drood and, in 2008, was stage manager for Cosi Fan Tutte. Music has been such a blessing in Courtney's life and she hopes to bring that blessing into the lives of others.

Jason M. Ferrell
Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, Cello, Viola, Violin, Piano, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Electric GuitarMr. Ferrell has been playing professionally in Central Ohio for over 12 years and teaching privately for 16 years. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1992 and went to The Ohio State University where he majored in music. He was a 4-year soloist for The Ohio State University Marching Band and played lead trumpet in the Jazz Ensemble. After a leave of college, Mr. Ferrell was asked to play lead trumpet for the Big Band show at Capital University. He earned scholarships and finished his degree in Music Education at Capital University, as well as, toured European jazz festivals as the guest artist. He currently plays lead trumpet in the Rick Brunetto Big Band at the airport, leads the Elvis Extravaganza, which is a national act, and freelances throughout the nation.

Jeff Zellner
Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, PianoMusic has been a part of Jeff Zellner’s life for over 15 years. His journey in music began with the study of percussion and piano as a youth. In high school, Jeff taught himself guitar and his interest in music became a passion. At the University of Toledo, Jeff studied Music Theory, Physics of Music and Sound, Guitar and Piano while earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication.
While in college, Jeff joined with other high school friends to form one of northwest Ohio’s most popular cover bands, playing rhythm guitar, backing vocals and harmonica. The band has also given Jeff the opportunity to compose original blues/rock songs. Jeff’s musical influences include: David Gilmour, Neil Young, and Dave Matthews.
According to Jeff, “I believe music should be a part of everyone’s life. It is a passion for me, and I look forward to helping students find their own path in a lifelong musical journey.”

Kyle Katterheinrich
Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, PianoKyle Katterheinrich began his musical endeavors in middle school when he started playing the euphonium in band. In High School, Kyle continued developing as a musician, spending 3 years playing baritone as a section leader in the marching band and playing 1st chair euphonium in the symphonic band. During his sophomore year, Kyle picked up the guitar for the first time and found his true passion. He took private lessons throughout high school and played guitar for the show choir band his senior year. Kyle went to Capital University where he majored in Music Industry while studying jazz and classical guitar. Kyle played in many ensembles during his 4 years at Capital, including Rock Band, MIDI band, Guitar Workshop, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Classical Guitar Ensemble. He graduated in May 2011 with Magna Cum Laude honors and looks forward to teaching others everything he has learned about music and the guitar.

Matt Bores
Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, VoiceMatt is a very experienced and accomplished guitarist who excels in the genres of rock, hard rock, and blues. He became interested in guitar at a very young age and began taking formal lessons at age 9 and continued though 16. He went on to study guitar and music theory in college at Owens College and Terra C.C. where he played in the school's electric music ensemble.
Matt has been playing in bands and performing live since the age of 17. He currently plays lead guitar and sings in 2 successful bands, and has had the opportunity to play across the region sharing the stage with national acts, such as RATT, Local H, Stabbing Westward, & Rehab.
In his twenties Matt became interested in teaching guitar and began giving private lessons to adults and children. He has given lessons at summer camps and volunteered giving lessons and demonstrations to children with special needs. He found it very rewarding to be able to give the gift of music through teaching guitar.
With over 20 years of experience playing guitar, a solid core knowledge of music theory and guitar fundamentals, as well as a genuine passion for music and teaching, Matt will be able to lay down the fundamentals to help any aspiring guitarist achieve their highest musical goals.

Matt Opachick
Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Violin, Viola, Piano, VoiceMatt Opachick has always been involved in Music. Growing up in Washington, Pennsylvania, Matt picked up the violin and the guitar from an early age. In high school he was able to participate in District, Regional, and State Orchestras, as well as the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra for two years. Also, while still in High School he participated in the Jazz Band, Marching Band, and several Rock Bands as a guitar player. Choosing to leave his hometown to study music, he attended Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. In four years, he was able to receive his Bachelor Degree in Music Education and develop a love for the Columbus music scene. In 2009, he graduated from College and began teaching for GNG music instruction full-time. Some of the groups that Matt has been involved with include: Couch Forts, Raw Dough, The Happy Trails Band, Foley at Comfest 2010, Wonder Twin Powers 2009, Multiple Jazz Trios and the Bexley String Quartet. Matt would love to share his passion for music with any person interested in learning the craft!

Melena Dillingham
Piano, VoiceMelena began her journey at 7 years old when her family’s house burnt down. Tragic, yes, but when the wife of the family’s contractor (a piano teacher) saw her she instantly spotted a kindred spirit in the land of music. In the seventh grade, her choir director suggested she consider voice lessons and her fate as a musician was sealed. 21 years after a new house was built, Melena and her husband happily reside in the Columbus area and she has dedicated herself to bringing her life full circle and teaching young musicians the joy of her world.
She graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Musial Theatre with a minor in Piano Performance. In addition to her curricular participation, she was active with the local community, being contracted both as a soprano and pianist with different churches, theatres, and schools. Since living in Ohio, she has served as Musical Director and pianist for the Granville Christian Academy’s spring musical and has been contracted by Ohio State University since 2008 as their head musician for the Annual Spring Recognition Banquet. However, at the end of the day, her greatest joy comes from being able to pass along all her experience and knowledge to the next generation of musicians.

Nate Shaw
Piano, VoiceNate Shaw took his bachelor's degree from Capital University (2006), studying jazz and contemporary piano under Mark Flugge. He has also studied classical piano with Dr. Tianshu Wang and Hammond B3 organ with Adrienne Hindmarsh. In 2006 he toured the U.S. and overseas as keyboardist with the Columbus-based group 'Lt. Dan's New Legs' (LDNL). In 2010 he took his master's degree from the International Centre for Music Studies (ICMuS) at Newcastle University, under the supervision of Dr. Nanette de Jong.
In addition to academic studies, Nate served as jazz/contemporary piano instructor at ICMuS, and seized several performing opportunities, including pianist for the university salsa band. As a keyboardist/organist, Nate performed with the explosive Afro-jazz-funk group 'Hannabiell and Midnight Blue.' With the help of Alx Alfaro and 'Dale! Burundanga' he ventured into unknown territory on the piano. Studying the rhythms of the Peruvian Cajón, Nate utilized montuno rhythms rarely explored on the piano.
Nate returned to Columbus, Ohio in 2011 where he continues to work and study as a teacher, pianist/composer, and musicologist.

Noel Mira
Piano, Flute, VoiceAs the daughter of an elementary music teacher, Noel Mira naturally developed a passion for music at a young age. Noel started taking piano lessons at age 5, started writing her own music to sing and play around age 8, and started playing the flute around age 10. Along with this, Noel also developed strong interests in other performing arts including theater and dance. Throughout her life Noel has always participated in numerous school and church choirs, bands, dance classes, and theater productions. In high school Noel became interested in teaching and founded a private dance instruction service at her local community theater, directed several church plays, and explored her teaching career by assisting and directing in local community schools and programs.
Noel will be graduating Capital University with a bachelor’s degree in music education in May 2012, and plans to continue her music-teaching career. Her main areas of focus include voice, piano, and flute. Noel enjoys sharing music with people of all ages. Noel’s teaching philosophy is to instill the musical skills and tools necessary to develop successful and knowledgeable musicians, who will share their passion, love, and respect for music with others!!

Pamela Villarreal
Piano, VoicePamela Villarreal has been teaching in the Columbus area for 5 years and has been with GNG Music Instruction since October 2008. She has been studying the piano for 18 years with various instructors, including time spent at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. Her main areas of focus include classical piano, specifically the late classical and romantic periods, and accompaniment. As a vocalist, she sings in the alto and mezzo soprano ranges and primarily works with musical theater material. Pam graduated from Capital University in 2008 where she continued studying the arts and worked in the theater department for five years. Previous teaching experience includes work with Columbus Children's Theatre and a local preschool/daycare facility.

Paul Valdiviez
Drums, Piano, VoicePaul Valdiviez's musical career began in Omaha, Nebraska. He played percussion in the NMEA All-State Orchestra his junior year and drumset/ vibraphone in the NMEA All-State Jazz Band his senior year. He studied percussion at Capital University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Music in Music Technology in 2009. While at Capital, Paul played in several diverse ensembles, including Jazz Percussion Ensemble, Orchestra, Chamber Percussion Ensemble, and Rock Band. He has studied jazz piano with Mark Flugge privately and classical piano under Pam Fusselman. Paul is currently actively involved in the Columbus music scene, playing with Banana Bag Groove, in which he plays guitar, steel pan, and sings.
